Job Title
FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Provide hands-on FPGA design, development, and test support for FPGA-based RF capabilities in a research and development environment supporting government programs. Work on end-to-end FPGA implementations, system integration, and real-time signal processing together with a cross-functional engineering team.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting requests 7+ years of professional experience, including developing software-defined radio (SDR) solutions.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on FPGA and RF system development across design, implementation, verification, and integration.
- Design, implement, and test FPGA logic for RF and signal-processing systems (end-to-end lifecycle).
- Write and maintain RTL (VHDL or Verilog).
- Perform simulation and verification using tools such as ModelSim or Questa.
- Debug at block and system level; integrate FPGAs with RF hardware and larger systems.
- Develop and implement software-defined radio (SDR) systems and DSP signal-processing chains.
- Work with embedded processors, real-time processing, and system-level firmware/software as required.
- Use version control and collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, clearances, and experience to perform the role.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Top Secret SCI clearance.
- 7+ years of professional experience, including SDR development.
- Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and experience with FPGA toolchains (Xilinx Vivado or Intel/Altera).
- Experience with C and C++; familiarity with MATLAB for algorithm development.
- Experience with Git for version control and Linux distributions such as RedHat or Rocky Linux.
- Hands-on experience with embedded hardware and RF signal processing; familiarity with real-time embedded systems.
Preferred:
- Experience with DSP algorithms and digital RF sampling, modulation schemes, error correction, or compression techniques.
- Experience integrating embedded processors with FPGA fabric on Xilinx SoC / RFSoC devices.
- Background in C5ISR, EW, SIGINT, or other communications systems.
Education Requirements
The posting states a Bachelor's degree is required; a Bachelor's in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. The posting also references a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. No explicit mention of acceptable equivalent experience was provided.
