Role Summary

Develop FPGA designs and embedded software for aerospace, defense, and government customers. Work on RTL development, embedded control code, hardware bring-up, and system validation for mission-critical platforms. The role requires close customer interaction to translate system requirements into deployable FPGA+SW solutions.

Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the Altera Hazlet, New Jersey office. Salary range for Bay Area, CA (where listed): $120.3K - $174.2K USD.

Experience Level

Mid-level - requires approximately 6+ years of experience in FPGA design, development, or system integration.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA and embedded software solutions from design through validation and customer deployment.

  • Design, develop, and validate FPGA and embedded software solutions for customer projects and reference platforms.
  • Collaborate with customers to translate system requirements into FPGA and software architectures.
  • Develop RTL (Verilog, VHDL) and test benches; implement embedded software (C++, Python) and Matlab control/monitor code.
  • Lead FPGA bring-up, debug, and validation in lab and customer environments.
  • Partner with FPGA, software, and systems teams to deliver end-to-end solutions and produce technical documentation and validation plans.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues in demanding, mission-critical environments.

Requirements

Summary of required and preferred technical skills and clearances.

  • Must-have: 6+ years of experience in FPGA design, development, or system integration.
  • RTL design experience (Verilog, VHDL) and testbench development.
  • Experience with FPGA-to-board interfaces, hardware bring-up, and lab debugging.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital design and interfaces (DDR, PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or government programs; familiarity with Altera FPGA platforms and toolchains; experience with ruggedized or mission-critical hardware design; HW/SW co-design experience; customer-facing or applications engineering experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
