Job Title

FPGA Embedded Software Engineer

Role Summary

The FPGA Embedded Software Engineer executes software and firmware projects for complex computing products, working with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering to deliver designs on schedule and within budget.

The role covers embedded firmware, OS-level drivers, BIOS, scripting, and support for manufacturing and field issues.

Experience Level

Mid-level. This position expects approximately 5+ years of software and firmware engineering experience, with emphasis on FPGA-related work.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, testing, documentation, and cross-team coordination for embedded software and firmware projects.

  • Design and implement firmware and software across environments: BIOS/UEFI, OS device drivers, embedded Linux, scripts, and bare-metal microcontroller code.
  • Work across project phases: requirements, design, documentation, vendor coordination, validation testing, and production support.
  • Create and maintain process and product documentation for internal teams and external users.
  • Provide project tracking and basic project management support for engineering designs.
  • Support manufacturing with technical troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Identify process and product improvements and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

Must-have
  • 5+ years of software and firmware engineering experience, particularly involving FPGA-based systems.
  • Proven record of delivering software/firmware projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail in design documentation and technical artifacts.
  • Experience developing on Linux, Windows, and embedded environments; ability to learn new toolchains and platforms quickly.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with UEFI/BIOS and Intel x86 architectures.
  • Experience with ARM platforms and embedded Linux development.
  • PIC microcontroller or other bare-metal firmware development experience.
  • Knowledge of security technologies such as FIPS-140-2, TPM, BitLocker, or STIG.
  • Scripting skills: bash, zsh, PowerShell, or Python.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
