AI/ML driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation Engineer

Role Summary

Work within the Advanced Chip Engineering (ACE) Design Methodologies and Automation team to research and prototype AI/ML techniques applied to VLSI CAD, design flows, and implementation automation for SoC and IP teams.

Deliver prototype tools and automation, pilot solutions on real designs, and collaborate with architecture, IP, implementation teams and academic partners to improve power, performance, area, and quality for automotive processors and microcontrollers.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting specifies hands-on software development experience and familiarity with AI/ML techniques; AI/ML application experience noted as <1 year.

Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate AI/ML solutions for VLSI CAD and implementation automation, then pilot those solutions on production designs.

• Research and prototype AI/ML methods (GenAI, Reinforcement Learning, Graph Neural Networks, CNNs) for CAD problems.
• Integrate and test prototypes on SoC/IP implementation flows to measure impact on power, performance, area, and quality.
• Collaborate with academic researchers, architecture teams, IP designers, and multi-site implementation teams.
• Develop software prototypes and automation to embed selected methods into design flows.
• Analyze results, iterate on models and tooling, and document methods and requirements for production tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

• Hands-on programming in Python and C++.
• Practical experience with Unix/Linux, revision control (Git, BitBucket), and software development/debug tools.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and optimization for real-world problems.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques (LLMs, CNN, RNN, GraphNN); posting specifies <1 year of applied AI/ML experience.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and clear verbal/written communication.
• Desirable: prior exposure to EDA tools (design, verification, DFT, implementation), CI/CD tools (Splunk, Jenkins, LSF), and design revision control workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (BS or MS). (Degree requirement specified in the posting.)
