Job Title
FPGA DSP Engineer
Role Summary
Technical lead for FPGA development supporting airborne radar products. Responsible for translating signal-processing algorithms into high-performance FPGA implementations, establishing FPGA design processes, and ensuring integration across interdisciplinary teams.
Work is primarily on FPGA architecture, RTL design, verification, timing closure, and mentoring other engineers within the Battlespace Awareness radar team.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver FPGA designs and processes from concept to production for airborne radar systems.
- Lead FPGA architecture, RTL design, and verification for airborne radar platforms.
- Translate signal-processing algorithms into efficient FPGA implementations on Altera/Intel platforms.
- Design DSP chains including data acquisition, filtering, and real-time processing.
- Perform timing analysis, resource optimization, and hardware debugging.
- Establish coding standards, verification methodologies, and design documentation.
- Coordinate with cross-site engineering teams to ensure design consistency and integration.
- Mentor and guide engineers as the squad scales FPGA capabilities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and hands-on FPGA experience.
- 12+ years of professional FPGA design and development experience.
- Strong RTL design skills using SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
- Proven experience implementing digital signal processing on FPGAs.
- Experience with Altera/Intel FPGA devices and toolchains (Quartus); familiarity with Xilinx toolchains (Vivado) noted.
- Experience with FPGA verification methodologies and simulation tools.
- Strong understanding of timing closure, resource optimization, and FPGA design constraints.
- Self-directed technical leadership with the ability to drive projects from requirements to implementation.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Radar systems or software-defined radio experience.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204B) and RFSoC/AgileX/Zynq platforms.
- Experience with MATLAB and algorithm-to-hardware workflows, embedded software for SoC platforms, DO-254 familiarity, and version control/CI practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
