FPGA Development Tools Validation Technical Lead
Role Summary
Lead a validation team responsible for ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of FPGA development tools across synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and simulation flows. Drive validation strategy, test automation, and cross-functional collaboration with software development, architecture, and product teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role requires substantial hands-on FPGA validation experience (see Requirements) and prior technical leadership responsibility.
Responsibilities
Own validation planning and execution for FPGA development tools and lead a team of validation engineers.
- Lead and mentor validation engineers; provide technical guidance and career development.
- Define and implement validation strategies, test plans, and methodologies for tool flows (RTL to bitstream).
- Design, develop, and maintain test environments, test benches, and automation frameworks.
- Integrate validation into CI/CD pipelines and maintain automated regression suites.
- Collaborate with software, architecture, and product teams to map requirements to test coverage.
- Analyze and debug complex issues, produce reports, and recommend remediation to development teams.
- Report validation status, risks, and progress to stakeholders and management.
Requirements
Key technical and leadership requirements. Items labeled "(Nice-to-have)" are preferred but not mandatory.
- 8+ years experience in FPGA development, verification, or validation with emphasis on software tools.
- 3+ years in a technical lead or team lead capacity, managing engineering delivery.
- Deep knowledge of FPGA architectures, design flows, and validation methodologies.
- Proven experience using major vendor development tools (Altera/Intel, Xilinx/AMD).
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Perl, Tcl) and experience building automation frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated regression systems.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with hardware description languages and simulation tools (Verilog/VHDL) (Nice-to-have).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
