Job Title

FPGA Development Tools Engineer - Graduate Intern

Role Summary

Graduate intern on the Quartus compiler team responsible for researching, designing, developing and optimizing software that enables successful place-and-route and compilation for next-generation FPGA devices. The role involves owning compiler modules (device modeling, timing closure, runtime), implementing features, and fixing issues in a large code base while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Graduate intern).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop software support for successful routing and compilation of next-generation FPGA devices.
  • Own and contribute to compiler modules spanning device modeling, timing closure and runtime.
  • Implement new features and diagnose, root-cause and fix existing issues within a large code base.
  • Optimize compiler performance (runtime and memory) and work on abstractions/frameworks for FPGA acceleration domains.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external customers.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Experience developing software to support routing/compilation for FPGA devices.
  • Familiarity with device modeling, timing closure and runtime components of a compiler.
  • Ability to implement features and perform root-cause debugging in a large, complex code base.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience or exposure to FPGA acceleration technologies (High Level Synthesis, DSP Builder, FPGA AI workflows).
  • Knowledge of performance optimization for hardware-targeted compilers and domains such as DSP or deep learning.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering.
