FPGA Development Tools Engineer

Role Summary

Join the UK DSP Builder team in the High-Level Design (HLD) group to develop and support DSP Builder and improve the common HLD compiler stack. The role combines compiler software development with FPGA-targeted hardware design, optimization and benchmarking.

Experience Level

Mid-level; typically requires around five years of relevant commercial experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Develop and maintain DSP Builder features and supporting tooling.
• Design and implement compiler optimizations in the HLD compiler stack.
• Analyze user designs to identify performance and implementation bottlenecks.
• Benchmark and validate generated FPGA hardware across target devices.
• Work across software and digital hardware domains to integrate optimizations.
• Produce technical documentation, test plans and measurement reports.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

• Proficient in C/C++ with strong knowledge of efficient data structures and algorithms.
• Technical understanding of digital hardware design concepts.
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to perform comprehensive benchmarking and quantitative analysis.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Verilog or VHDL and FPGA design flows.
• Experience developing optimizing compilers.
• Practical experience with FPGA architectures and toolchains.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field; or five years of commercial experience in these areas. Equivalent practical experience accepted.
