Job Title

FPGA Designer

Role Summary

The FPGA Designer implements and validates FPGA-based control and datapath logic for photonics and optical networking products. The role works inside an R&D engineering team and collaborates with hardware, firmware, verification, and algorithms engineers to deliver robust system designs.

Primary responsibilities include RTL implementation, simulation-driven verification, lab integration and debugging, synthesis and timing optimization, and producing design documentation.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify years of experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implement control and datapath logic in HDL; configure and integrate IP cores.
  • Develop and run simulations; support test plan creation and verification environment development.
  • Assist with debugging, review coverage reports, and help improve simulation coverage.
  • Perform lab validation and cross-functional integration with hardware and firmware teams; develop automated test scripts.
  • Apply synthesis constraints, perform timing analysis, and optimize builds for robust timing closure.
  • Create and maintain design and test documentation for projects and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Experience in ASIC or FPGA design and simulation using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Practical experience with synthesis, constraints, timing analysis, and clock-domain crossing techniques.
  • Experience using AMD (Xilinx) or Intel (Altera) FPGAs and vendor toolflows.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills; detail-oriented approach.
  • Clear, well-commented coding style and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multi-discipline engineering teams.

Nice-to-have (assets):

  • Experience with SystemVerilog Assertions, advanced verification methodologies, and coverage analysis.
  • Experience with embedded processor SoC design and interfaces such as PCIe, DDR memory, AXI.
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts.
  • Experience with VHDL and software/scripting languages such as C, Tcl, Python, Perl, or Csh.
  • Experience developing in a Linux environment.

Education Requirements
