Job Title
FPGA Designer
Role Summary
The FPGA Designer will design and deliver complex FPGA-based systems for Fidus clients, working with customers and cross-functional internal teams to define architectures, implement RTL, integrate IP, perform simulations, close timing, and support lab bring-up and debug.
Work occurs across domains such as video, communications, storage, signal processing and includes collaboration with FPGA/DSP, hardware, embedded software, verification, SI/PI and PCB layout teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typical candidate has a minimum of 5 years of FPGA RTL design experience (Verilog/VHDL/SystemVerilog).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, RTL development, verification, and prototype validation.
- Define FPGA architectures and implement RTL using Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL.
- Integrate IP, create testbenches, run functional simulations, and perform timing analysis and closure.
- Participate in design reviews covering hardware-software interfaces, I/O and customer requirements.
- Perform lab bring-up, prototype testing, and debug; support hardware and software engineers during integration.
- Prepare test plans, design documentation, and customer demonstration materials.
- Provide technical input for proposals, estimates, and pre-sales discussions.
Requirements
Must-have skills are listed first; a few desirable items follow.
-
Must-have: Minimum 5 years of experience designing using RTL (Verilog/VHDL/SystemVerilog) on FPGAs; strong RTL design and verification practices including testbenches and timing closure.
- Experience with Xilinx Vivado and/or Intel/Altera Quartus tool flows; familiarity with ModelSim or equivalent simulators.
- Practical experience with Xilinx or Intel/Altera FPGA families and associated IP integration.
- Experience with high-speed memory and bus interfaces, communications protocols, and DSP or processor instantiations; video systems and standards experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and proven customer-facing experience.
- Proven techniques and habits that produce high-quality, well-documented designs.
- Hands-on lab testing and prototype debug experience.
-
Onboarding: Will complete AMD/Adaptive FPGA qualification certification as part of joining the company.
-
Nice-to-have: Domain experience in space/satellite, high-performance compute, imaging/VR, automotive or medical systems; familiarity with AI tools in the engineering workflow.
Education Requirements
Degree: B.A.Sc., B.Eng. or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent practical experience.
