Job Title

FPGA Design Lead, Electronic Combat Solutions

Role Summary

Lead a team of FPGA designers within the Electronic Combat Solutions Hardware Engineering Group to deliver FPGA-based systems from requirements and architecture through RTL implementation, verification, lab testing, and product support. The role requires technical leadership, hands-on RTL ownership, and mentoring of engineers.

Experience Level

Senior-level β€” typically 10+ years of relevant experience (senior/lead engineering role).

Responsibilities

Deliver technical leadership and hands-on design work across the FPGA development lifecycle:

  • Lead and develop a team of FPGA designers; provide technical oversight and mentoring.
  • Translate high-level requirements into micro-architecture and detailed design.
  • Own RTL coding, synthesis flow, and creation of basic test benches.
  • Perform digital simulation, timing analysis, and clock-domain crossing design.
  • Conduct lab bring-up, debug, and problem resolution for hardware and FPGA designs.
  • Support product integration, sustainment, and legacy design maintenance.

Requirements

Must-have skills, security/clearance expectations, and technical tools:

  • Eligible to obtain U.S. security clearance (Top Secret preferred); U.S. person / U.S. citizenship required.
  • Extensive FPGA or ASIC design and development experience; experience leading design teams.
  • Proficient in VHDL (preferred) or Verilog HDL; RTL coding and synthesis experience.
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado/ISE or Intel/Altera Quartus toolflows.
  • Digital simulation using ModelSim/Questa and timing-driven design skills.
  • Strong lab debug, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, SerDes, ADC/DAC, DDR3/4) and clock domain crossing.
  • Familiarity with revision control systems (Git, CVS, ClearCase, Subversion) and scripting (Tcl/Tk, UNIX/Linux shell).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP fundamentals and FPGA implementation, UVM/SystemVerilog, Matlab/Simulink.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Perl, or Python for verification and tooling.
  • Active security clearance is a plus.
