FPGA Design Engineering Intern - Summer 2027

Role Summary

Summer internship focused on FPGA design for infrastructure products within the Electrical Engineering team in Schaumburg, IL. The intern will work under guidance to assist with design analysis and validation of RF Site product development.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current undergraduate students; no prior full-time professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Contribute to FPGA development, verification, and debugging for RF infrastructure products.

  • Capture and refine FPGA requirements.
  • Write code in C, VHDL, and Verilog for FPGA development.
  • Develop and run test scripts in Python; use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues.
  • Document device interface specifications.
  • Perform interfacing analysis between digital logic and FPGAs.
  • Conduct bench-level testing using oscilloscope, DC power supply, and multimeter.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligibility requirements for internship candidacy.

  • Practical experience or coursework in digital design and FPGA interfacing.
  • Experience writing code in VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Proficiency with C and Python for test and verification tasks.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and bench testing (oscilloscope, DC PS, multimeter).
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software interactions and document findings.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or an MS student with appropriate work authorization (see education section for visa note).

Education Requirements

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering with a graduation date on or after December 2027. The posting also notes that master's (MS) students with work authorization may be considered; F-1 CPT is accepted only for master's-level students. No other degrees, certifications, or equivalent-experience language were specified.
