FPGA Design Engineer (Verilog)

Role Summary

Contract FPGA engineer responsible for extending and integrating new functional blocks into an existing FPGA top-level design, delivering device programming and ensuring timing and functional correctness through synthesis, simulation, and place-and-route.

Works closely with system engineering to support hardware/software integration and system-level testing. On-site work in El Segundo, CA is required.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of FPGA and/or ASIC design experience (see Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Inherit and extend existing FPGA top-level design with new functional blocks and interfaces.
• Integrate third-party and in-house IP cores into the design.
• Update and manage constraint files; perform synthesis, timing closure, and place-and-route flows.
• Run simulations and verification to ensure design integrity.
• Program and validate FPGA devices (primarily Xilinx Versal, Ultrascale, Ultrascale+ families).
• Collaborate with system engineers to support hardware/software integration and system testing.
• Participate in on-site testing and bring-up activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and conditions:

• 5+ years of FPGA and/or ASIC design experience.
• Proven experience with Xilinx/AMD Vivado toolflow.
• Experience targeting Xilinx Versal, Ultrascale, or Ultrascale+ devices.
• Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog HDL.
• Advanced FPGA implementation skills: synthesis, constraints, timing closure, and place-and-route.
• Active U.S. security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

• Additional FPGA implementation or verification experience beyond core responsibilities.

Education Requirements

Education typically from an accredited program in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor).
