FPGA Design Engineer, Senior
Role Summary
Design and deliver FPGA-based digital systems for advanced radar and missile seeker applications. Work with multidisciplinary teams in Huntsville, AL to develop, verify, integrate, and optimize FPGA firmware and associated hardware/software interfaces.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 10 years of relevant FPGA and digital systems experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include development, verification, integration, and support of FPGA firmware and system-level functionality.
- Design, develop, and maintain FPGA firmware using Verilog, VHDL, and other HDLs.
- Create and run simulation and verification testbenches to validate designs.
- Perform synthesis, timing analysis, debugging, and optimization for performance and resource goals.
- Integrate firmware with embedded processors, hardware components, and software applications.
- Implement and troubleshoot communication interfaces (RS-232, RS-422, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.).
- Develop and implement DSP functions such as filters, FFTs, modulation/demodulation, and error-correction.
- Support lab bring-up, hardware integration, system verification, and field troubleshooting.
- Participate in technical reviews, produce design documentation, and present results to stakeholders.
- Evaluate new FPGA technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve development efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Minimum 10 years of FPGA design and digital systems experience.
- Extensive experience with Verilog and VHDL and HDL-based design flows.
- Proven skills in simulation, verification, synthesis, and timing analysis.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, Synplify, ModelSim, and Verdi.
- Solid understanding of digital logic, FPGA architectures, and hardware integration.
- Thorough knowledge of DSP concepts and implementation techniques.
- Experience with serial communication protocols and system-level integration.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret security clearance required; ability to maintain clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with radar or missile seeker systems and defense platforms.
- Prior mentoring or team lead experience on complex FPGA projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline is required.
