FPGA Design Engineer Level 2

Role Summary

Mid-level FPGA design engineer on the Space Sector team in Linthicum, MD. Responsible for designing, implementing, and testing digital subsystems for satellite command-and-control and sensor data processing.

Work includes FPGA development using AMD and Microchip toolflows, simulation and verification, system-level validation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Level 2). Typical experience: Bachelors degree plus 2 years professional experience, or Masters degree with no professional experience requirement.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities:

• Develop and implement digital logic designs for space applications (command/control and sensor processing).
• Implement and modify FPGA designs using AMD and Microchip FPGA toolchains.
• Simulate and verify FPGA designs and support system-level validation.
• Support timing analysis and timing closure activities as required.
• Document design, analysis, and test reports.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams and communicate technical status clearly.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications (concise):

• Must-have: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret or Top-Secret security clearance.
• Must-have: Working knowledge of digital design, FPGAs, and HDL (VHDL and Verilog).
• Must-have: Experience with simulation and verification of FPGA designs.
• Must-have: Effective written and verbal communication and ability to work within engineering teams.
• Nice-to-have: Active TS/SCI clearance, static timing analysis, and clock-domain crossing experience.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital signal processing, network stack concepts, AXI4 protocol, LabVIEW, MATLAB/Simulink.
• Nice-to-have: Experience translating requirements or block diagrams into FPGA/digital logic designs and defining development test plans.

Education Requirements

Bachelors degree with 2 years of professional experience, or Masters degree with 0 years of professional experience. The posting does not mandate a specific field of study. (Security-clearance eligibility is required.)
