FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based subsystems for product platforms. Work across architecture definition, RTL implementation, synthesis, timing closure, verification, and lab bring-up. Collaborate with hardware, software, diagnostics, and signal-integrity teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting requests approximately 5β10 years of FPGA design experience (it also lists up to 12 years in places).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement FPGA solutions from block-level RTL through synthesis and timing closure.
- Participate in architecture definition, detailed design specification, and implementation planning.
- Develop block-level RTL, perform synthesis, and close timing across designs.
- Verify designs using simulation and assist with validation activities.
- Support subsystem-level lab bring-up, integration, and unit test validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, diagnostics, signal integrity) to integrate FPGA subsystems.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills:
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with Xilinx, Altera/Intel, or Microsemi FPGAs.
- Must-have: Proficient in HDL: Verilog, VHDL, and SystemVerilog.
- Must-have: Practical experience with vendor toolchains such as Vivado, Quartus, or Libero; RTL coding, synthesis, and timing closure.
- Must-have: Practical knowledge of protocols and interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, AXI, memory controllers, OTN, I2C, SPI, UART.
- Must-have: Basic Unix familiarity and scripting skills.
