Job Title

FPGA Design DSP Lead

Role Summary

Lead a team of FPGA designers in the Electronic Combat Solutions Hardware Engineering Group to define architecture, oversee RTL development, and deliver FPGA-based hardware for radar/EW systems. The role includes technical oversight, mentoring, hands-on RTL design, verification support, and lab integration and debugging.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 10+ years of relevant FPGA/ASIC/DSP experience; leadership experience managing design teams.

Responsibilities

Accountable for architecture, implementation, verification, and delivery of FPGA/DSP subsystems and for leading the design team.

  • Translate system and higher-level requirements into micro-architecture and RTL specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship to engineers.
  • Develop and maintain RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog), synthesis flows, and basic test benches.
  • Perform lab bring-up, hardware debug, and support integration and field testing.
  • Ensure timing-driven design practices, clock-domain crossing correctness, and timing closure.
  • Work with system engineers and integrators on high-speed interfaces and board-level issues.
  • Own design configuration/revision control and build reproducibility.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and clearances; preferred skills listed separately.

  • Clearance: Current U.S. Secret security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Experience: Extensive FPGA or ASIC design and development experience; prior leadership of a design team.
  • DSP fundamentals and working understanding of radar and/or electronic warfare systems.
  • Proficient in VHDL (preferred) or Verilog; experience with SystemVerilog/UVM is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with vendor tools (Xilinx Vivado/ISE or Intel/Altera Quartus) and digital simulation (Modelsim/Questa).
  • Strong timing-driven design skills including clock domain crossing techniques.
  • Lab debug and problem-solving skills for hardware bring-up and integration.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, SerDes), ADC/DAC, and DDR3/4 memory interfaces.
  • Familiarity with revision control systems (Git, CVS, Clearcase, Subversion, etc.).
  • Proficient in scripting and build automation (Tcl/Tk, UNIX/Linux shell); programming in C/C++, Python, Perl is useful.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to mentor staff.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree reduces the stated experience expectation ("10+ years with bachelor's degree; less with an advanced degree"). No specific fields of study or certifications were specified in the posting.
