Job Title

FPGA Configuration and Security (Firmware) Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Validate firmware, drivers, platform and system behavior for FPGA-based embedded systems across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments. Work within the Altera Software and IP Solutions (SIPS) team in collaboration with firmware, hardware, software, and validation engineers to develop and execute tests that ensure product reliability and release readiness.

Experience Level

Mid-level; typical guidance 3–5 years of relevant experience in software, firmware, embedded systems, platform validation, or test development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Execute validation plans and test cases for firmware, platform and system-level functionality (functional, regression, integration, stress, negative tests).
  • Review product requirements and develop/maintain test procedures and documentation.
  • Validate customer workflows and real-world scenarios on FPGA platforms across Windows and Linux.
  • Install, upgrade, and validate FPGA software packages and Windows drivers; verify driver–hardware–firmware interactions and error-handling behaviour.
  • Reproduce and document reported issues, collect debug data, and support root-cause analysis with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and maintain test automation scripts (Python and other scripting languages) and improve automated regression suites.
  • Support test lab infrastructure, data collection, reporting tools, and continuous validation initiatives.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 3–5 years experience in software, firmware, embedded systems, platform validation, or test development.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, SoCs, and firmware concepts.
  • Experience with Python scripting and basic C or C++ programming.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and issue tracking (Jira).
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and written/verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with FPGA systems and FPGA development tools.
  • Platform or driver validation experience and familiarity with Windows driver installation and hardware enumeration.
  • Knowledge of PCIe, USB, Ethernet or other hardware interfaces.
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks and Linux driver/kernel testing.
  • Understanding of security concepts (secure boot, authentication, cryptography) and use of test/debug tools (logic/protocol analyzers, debuggers).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
