FPGA/ASIC Engineer I
Role Summary
Join Collins Aerospace Applied Research and Technology (ART) Microelectronics Technology team to design, implement, verify, and integrate high-performance digital FPGAs and ASICs for defense systems. Work focuses on digital architecture, RTL implementation, verification, and system integration for communications, security, and space-based products.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Engineer I). Suitable for candidates early in their career; typical experience 0β3 years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Capture digital requirements and define ASIC/FPGA digital architecture.
- Implement ASIC/FPGA digital designs using RTL (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog).
- Develop and run simulations and verification for RTL implementations.
- Support system integration and hardware bring-up of FPGA/ASIC solutions.
- Debug hardware issues using schematics, vendor debug tools, and lab equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver designs that meet system requirements.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and clearances:
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (DoD Secret). Active/existing clearance required after day 1.
- Experience with RTL coding and simulation in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Experience using ASIC and/or FPGA design tools such as ModelSim, Quartus, Vivado, or equivalent.
- Experience debugging hardware with schematics, FPGA vendor debug tools, and digital lab equipment.
- Ability to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA and collaborate with engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Understanding of digital circuit architecture and resource tradeoffs.
- Background in signal processing or information assurance; familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink.
- Familiarity with revision control (Git, Subversion).
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and meet aggressive schedules.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics) required by start date, or equivalent practical experience.
