FPGA Architecture Engineer
Role Summary
Define, evaluate, and realize next-generation FPGA architectures with a focus on power efficiency while balancing performance, area, and software quality of results. The role links architectural exploration with hardware implementation and software/CAD enablement.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires around 10 years of relevant experience; strong candidates with equivalent accomplishments may be considered.
Responsibilities
Work across architecture, CAD, and hardware teams to evaluate and implement FPGA fabric concepts and ensure achievable PPA and QOR targets.
- Evaluate and define next-generation FPGA fabric architectures.
- Perform architectural modeling, evaluation, and optimization (including AI-accelerated exploration).
- Develop programming and modeling assets to support architectural research and analysis.
- Collaborate closely with software CAD and IC hardware design teams to meet SW QOR and HW PPA goals.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- ~10 years of relevant experience in FPGA architecture, FPGA CAD, or ASIC/chip design with demonstrated architectural tradeoff reasoning.
- Strong understanding of digital design and the relationship between architecture, implementation, and power, performance, and area.
- Programming and modeling skills for architectural research and analysis (including Python); familiarity with Verilog or VHDL.
- Clear technical communication, initiative, and effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with commercial FPGA architectures and commercial CAD tools.
- Experience connecting architectural decisions to hardware implementation, CAD behavior, or customer workloads.
- Relevant FPGA architecture research supported by models, experiments, or publications.
- Experience applying AI/ML or generative-AI tools to engineering problems.
Education Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
