Firmware/Software Validation Design Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Internship role on Intel's Silicon and Platform Engineering Group focused on designing, developing, validating, and debugging embedded firmware across system-level domains. The intern will work with architects and engineers to integrate firmware with hardware, optimize constrained systems, and support validation and benchmarking activities.

This is a hands-on internship intended to develop practical firmware engineering skills through real project work and collaboration with experienced engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Targeted at current Master's students or equivalent early-career candidates.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware validation, system modeling, and supporting hardware-software integration.

  • Validate embedded firmware solutions for various systems and platforms.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers to implement robust firmware.
  • Perform system-level modeling and develop algorithms to optimize timing, memory, and processing constraints.
  • Assist with architectural decision-making, validation planning, and performance benchmarking.
  • Analyze bugs and issues and provide technical support for problem resolution.
  • Improve build infrastructure and tooling to streamline firmware development.
  • Engage in continuous learning to expand technical skills and stay current with industry practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for the internship.

  • Familiarity with firmware fundamentals, including low-level programming and hardware-software interaction.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience using debugging tools and techniques for firmware or embedded systems.
  • Basic understanding of system architecture and optimization for constrained environments.
  • Ability to analyze and solve technical problems methodically.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of firmware algorithm design and related development processes.
  • Familiarity with software build and version control tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; attention to detail and disciplined execution.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
