Firmware Engineer (Taiwan)

Role Summary

Develop firmware and low-level software for Etched's inference hardware, focusing on drivers, APIs, system integration, and performance optimization for AI workloads. Work closely with hardware and software teams to deliver production-ready features and stable releases.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects around 3 years of relevant professional experience in software and firmware development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, integration, and validation of firmware across the stack.

  • Design, implement, and maintain firmware for embedded systems and inference hardware.
  • Develop low-level drivers and APIs to interface with hardware components.
  • Test, validate, and debug firmware on product launches and production boards.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and support root-cause analysis.
  • Optimize firmware for throughput, latency, and reliability for AI inference workloads.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, research, manufacturing) to ship features.
  • Participate in in-person engineering activities in the Taipei office.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by concise nice-to-have items.

  • Minimum ~3 years professional software development experience with competence in data structures and algorithms.
  • Minimum ~3 years developing and testing software for product launches.
  • Minimum ~3 years hands-on firmware design, implementation, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Practical experience with embedded architectures and IO technologies such as I2C, SPI, PCIe, and DRAM.
  • Familiarity with system concepts like scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware-software boundaries.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience resolving customer-related technical issues.
  • Comfort solving ambiguous problems and defining solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
