Firmware Engineer - Fibre Channel/NVME Networked-Storage

Role Summary

Design, implement, debug and test embedded firmware for Broadcom's 64G Fibre Channel (FC) / NVMe host bus adapter (HBA) and networked-storage products. Work on firmware features, target-mode and error-recovery support, and automated test infrastructure in a cross-functional, multi-site engineering team.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

The role focuses on embedded firmware development, verification, and cross-team integration for storage networking products.

  • Design and implement embedded firmware in C and assembly for real-time environments.
  • Debug and troubleshoot firmware using protocol analyzers and in-circuit debuggers.
  • Develop and execute test cases, create automated test scripts, and validate firmware features.
  • Implement target-mode and error-recovery mechanisms for FC/NVMe HBA products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional hardware, software, and QA teams across sites.
  • Document designs, test results, and track bugs following software development processes.

Requirements

  • Must-have: Embedded firmware development in C and assembly for real-time OS environments.
  • Must-have: Experience with protocol analyzers for FC, NVMe, and/or PCIe and solid firmware debugging skills (ICE debuggers ideal).

  • Must-have: Strong communication and documentation skills and adherence to software development and bug-tracking processes.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience developing/tuning ARM-based high-performance firmware or other microprocessor firmware; automated test framework development.

Education Requirements
