Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Join the System Control Firmware team to develop low-level firmware for NVIDIA Tegra SoCs. The role focuses on boot sequencing, power/clock/thermal management, and ensuring reliable operation across product programs and hardware platforms.
Work involves close cross-functional collaboration with hardware, software, and safety teams to deliver production-quality firmware for automotive, AI edge, data center, and robotics platforms.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career. The posting requests approximately 2+ years of professional embedded firmware experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, debugging, and program support for system control firmware.
- Design, implement, and optimize low-level C firmware for the Boot and Power Management Processor (BPMP).
- Diagnose and debug complex hardware/software boundary failures using boot logs and hardware traces.
- Provide hands-on technical support to active product programs and drive rapid resolutions with cross-functional teams.
- Write unit and integration tests, perform error injection on emulation platforms and physical boards, and develop test automation.
- Collaborate globally with hardware, software, and safety architecture teams to define system-level interfaces and requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; concise selection of nice-to-have items follows.
- 2+ years professional experience in embedded firmware development, low-level C programming, and memory-mapped register access.
- Strong debugging skills across hardware/software boundaries and experience with boot logs and hardware traces.
- Knowledge of SoC concepts: boot flows, interrupts, linker/build systems, and device-tree based configurations.
- Familiarity with low-level SoC infrastructure: clocks, resets, voltage rails, and power-gating behavior.
- Experience writing unit/integration tests and developing test automation for firmware.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across distributed engineering teams.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows (LLM/agent tooling) is expected.
- Nice-to-have: Rust for systems programming, ISO 26262 functional safety experience (FMEA), and secure-boot/security knowledge.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
