Job Title

Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and maintain embedded firmware for Ethernovia's automotive-grade networking devices. The role covers architecture, implementation, testing, and integration of firmware into the company SDK, and requires close collaboration with hardware, drivers, and system teams.

This position supports safety-critical vehicle and edge networking applications; work follows functional safety and qualification practices.

Experience Level

Positions available at Mid-level and Senior levels. Mid-level: approximately 3 years of relevant embedded firmware experience. Senior: approximately 7 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core day-to-day responsibilities include firmware development, low-level integration, and verification on target hardware.

  • Design and implement embedded firmware to configure, control, and monitor networking hardware.
  • Develop and maintain device drivers and host interfaces to expose hardware features.
  • Integrate firmware into the SDK and validate on hardware and emulation platforms.
  • Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to validate timing, resource use, and performance.
  • Optimize code for footprint and runtime performance.
  • Create and maintain unit, integration, and system tests; debug low-level firmware issues.
  • Follow and contribute to functional safety processes, documentation, and qualification evidence.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional attributes.

  • Must-have: 3+ years (Mid) or 7+ years (Senior) of embedded firmware experience, preferably for communication devices such as Ethernet.
  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C/C++; experience with Python is a plus.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with embedded processors and hardware buses (I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet); experience integrating and testing low-level code on hardware.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to write efficient, footprint- and performance-conscious code.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with simulation/emulation platforms, GNU toolchains, bootloaders (u-boot), ARM processors, PCIe/SerDes, TCP/IP, SR-IOV, and automotive safety qualification processes (MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with version control (Git/Perforce), CI/CD automation (Jenkins), and mixed-signal or DSP experience.
  • Soft skills: Self-motivated, strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
