Job Title

Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Join the System Control Firmware team to design, implement, and maintain low-level firmware for Tegra SoC devices. The role focuses on boot sequencing, dynamic power/clock/thermal management, debugging hardware/software boundary issues, and collaborating with hardware and software teams across sites.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” the role expects approximately 2+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and optimize low-level C firmware for the Boot and Power Management Processor (BPMP).
  • Provide hands-on technical support to active product programs; diagnose and resolve complex, high-priority issues.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and safety architecture teams across global engineering sites on requirements and system-level interfaces.
  • Diagnose hardware/software boundary failures using boot logs and hardware traces; develop unit and integration tests and run error injection on emulation platforms and physical boards.

Requirements

Key must-have and desirable qualifications.

  • Must-have: 2+ years professional experience in embedded firmware development; proficiency in low-level C programming and memory-mapped register access.
  • Must-have: Strong debugging skills across hardware/software boundaries; familiarity with SoC boot flows, interrupts, linker/build systems, and device-tree configurations.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of low-level SoC infrastructure including clocks, resets, voltage rails, and power-gating behaviors.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated technical problem-solving in complex projects and effective verbal and written communication for distributed teams.
  • Must-have: Familiarity or hands-on experience with AI-assisted development workflows (LLMs/agents) to improve code generation, testing, or engineering efficiency.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience or strong interest in Rust for systems programming.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with ISO 26262 functional safety processes and FMEA.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with secure boot concepts and hardware/software boundary security.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
