Job Title

Firmware Development Engineer (Student / Intern)

Role Summary

Develop firmware that bridges hardware and software for next-generation processors and systems. Work on low-level firmware, microcode, IP-specific firmware, FPGA and DSP interfaces, and validation together with cross-functional engineering teams.

Remote position for candidates located in Canada; Intel does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Internship. Targeted to current students or early-career candidates.

Responsibilities

Contribute to firmware and system software that directly interfaces with hardware; participate in design, review, and validation activities.

  • Implement firmware and low-level software for microcode, IP-specific firmware, FPGA, and DSPs.
  • Design and implement interfaces that abstract low-level hardware for higher-level software.
  • Perform design and code reviews; develop and execute tests to validate implementations.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and take ownership of issues through to resolution.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and logistic requirements.

  • Experience or coursework in C and system software.
  • Basic knowledge of embedded systems, digital ASIC design, and firmware/software development and testing methodology.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and drive tasks to completion.
  • Must be legally able to live and work in Canada; position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience or coursework with C++, Rust, SystemC, Python, or domain-specific language modeling.
  • Experience or coursework with processors, servers, system software architecture, SoC architecture, subsystem/IP architecture, or microarchitecture.

Education Requirements

Active student pursuing a BASc or BS in Computer Science or a related technical field. Coursework or experience in C and system software is expected; additional coursework in embedded systems, digital ASIC design, SoC/subsystem architecture, or related areas is beneficial.
