Job Title

Firmware Development Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Internship position on Intel's firmware engineering team supporting BIOS, microcontrollers, and memory-system firmware. The role involves implementing, validating, and debugging embedded software and collaborating with architects, hardware and software engineers to meet product requirements.

This is a hands-on intern role focused on practical firmware development experience and contributing to real product work under mentorship.

Entry-level / Internship (student role).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, validation, and debugging of firmware and related engineering activities.

  • Assist in design, development, validation, and debugging of firmware for BIOS, microcontrollers, and/or memory systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for firmware issues.
  • Contribute to system-level modeling, algorithm development, and hardware–software integration under timing, memory, and processing constraints.
  • Support architectural decision-making, validation planning, and performance benchmarking.
  • Participate in code reviews and help improve firmware quality and development practices.
  • Help develop or enhance software build infrastructure and debugging tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful internship contributions.

  • Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Python.
  • Foundational knowledge of embedded software development and firmware validation/debugging techniques.
  • Understanding of computer architecture and microarchitecture fundamentals.
  • Ability to analyze and solve technical problems; exposure to software architecture principles and development workflows.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with software build infrastructure or debugging tools.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for learning.

Education Requirements

Must be a student expected to graduate in 2027 with a Masters degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or another relevant technical major. Related technical fields and equivalent relevant academic background are acceptable per posting language.
