Firmware Design Engineer - High-Speed SERDES PHY

Role Summary

Join Cadence's physical IP team to design and deliver firmware for high-speed SERDES PHYs. The role spans firmware architecture, implementation, verification, post-silicon validation, and customer deployment within an IP development organization.

You will work closely with verification, validation, product engineering and design teams to ensure firmware functionality, performance and field readiness.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities cover firmware development, debugging, validation and customer support.

  • Contribute to firmware architecture and implement assigned firmware features.
  • Develop system-level prototype control software to implement and validate adaptation, equalization and control algorithms.
  • Work with verification teams to debug and resolve firmware issues found in simulations.
  • Participate in post-silicon testing and validation to identify firmware/hardware issues and implement firmware improvements.
  • Support product engineering and validation teams during electrical/system characterization and customer deployment, including delivering hot fixes as needed.

Requirements

Core technical skills and behaviors required.

  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
  • Understanding of wireline communication principles and SERDES operation.
  • Knowledge of mixed-signal circuit design and digital signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with digital verification concepts; knowledge of UVM and SystemVerilog.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and clear verbal/written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across verification, validation and product teams.

Education Requirements

BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering.
