Job Title

Firmware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Develop firmware for PHY/SerDes and optical interfaces within the NVIDIA FW PHY Group. Collaborate with architecture, hardware, and software teams to implement, validate, and debug firmware for networking silicon.

Work spans pre-silicon emulation/simulation, silicon bring-up, and cross-team troubleshooting to ensure reliable signal-processing functionality.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career - minimum 2 years of relevant firmware or embedded systems experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Enable and integrate new SerDes and optical technologies into products.
  • Implement firmware functionality in signal-processing units of NVIDIA products.
  • Define, implement, and maintain firmware algorithms to control silicon.
  • Develop and test firmware in emulation and simulation environments during pre-silicon phases.
  • Debug and triage hardware/firmware/software issues and support silicon bring-up.
  • Collaborate closely with architecture, hardware, and software design teams across locations.
  • Lead data-driven discussions on product functionality and areas for improvement.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in embedded firmware or related roles.
  • Proficient in C programming for embedded systems.
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to investigate and triage difficult embedded firmware problems.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with teams across multiple countries; strong written and verbal English.

Nice-to-have:

  • Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
  • Good understanding of SerDes operation.
  • Experience developing the physical layer of communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with hardware/software development processes and strong interpersonal skills to guide cross-functional work.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
