Filter Design Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Internship position in the Advanced Cellular business group focused on acoustic filter (BAW/SAW) design for wireless RF front-end applications. Work includes circuit and electromagnetic simulation, laminate integration, characterization support, and contributing to design‑flow improvements.

This is a hands-on engineering internship that pairs technical assignments with mentorship and exposure to cross-functional teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Targeted at current college students; no prior professional experience required beyond relevant coursework or project work.

Responsibilities

Typical internship responsibilities include:

  • Design acoustic filter components (BAW/SAW) for RF applications.
  • Perform laminate integration of filter components into RF front-end modules.
  • Run circuit and EM simulations with commercial and internal tools.
  • Verify designs meet product specifications for RF performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Support characterization and diagnostic testing of RF components with the lab team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and processes.

Requirements

Core skills and attributes expected from candidates.

  • Must-have: Analog/RF circuit design coursework or equivalent project experience; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); strong written and verbal communication; ability to organize work and operate independently.
  • Familiarity with RF measurement equipment (spectrum/network analyzers) preferred.
  • Software exposure: ADS, AWR, FEM, HFSS, Momentum, Cadence, or similar tools is preferred.
  • Ability to handle and analyze large datasets; basic statistical analysis experience preferred.
  • Detail oriented, collaborative, self-starter, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Education Requirements

Enrollment in an accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program is required. Preference indicated for MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering. Minimum GPA of 3.0 specified for applicants.
