Role Summary

The Field Service Engineer provides on-site technical support for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, performing installation, preventative and corrective maintenance, and upgrades. The role focuses on maximizing tool availability and performance while working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include equipment recovery, troubleshooting across multiple domains, and supporting installations and upgrades.

  • Serve as primary technical resource for corrective maintenance, equipment recoveries, and escalations.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, vacuum, RF, pneumatic, software, and process-related failures.
  • Perform root cause analysis using diagnostic tools, equipment history, and data analysis.
  • Lead and coordinate recovery efforts during unscheduled downtime and critical outages.
  • Support tool installations, startup, qualification, retrofits, and upgrades.
  • Partner with technicians, engineering, and customer teams to implement reliability improvements.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, logs, and technical reports.
  • Communicate equipment status, recovery plans, and operational risks to stakeholders.
  • Mentor less-experienced technicians and promote safe work practices and compliance.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; ability to diagnose complex equipment failures.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC circuits, RF systems, vacuum systems, pneumatics, electronics, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using diagnostic test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
  • Proven problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills in a technical manufacturing or equipment support environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills; ability to collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Able to work any 12-hour shift schedule and support occasional off-shift, weekend, or emergency recovery activities; travel up to 25%.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, work in cleanrooms, climb ladders, and lift equipment as required; must follow PPE and safety procedures.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with semiconductor equipment (Dry Etch, Plasma, RF Power, Vacuum, Robotics), tool installations/upgrades, and familiarity with Lean/TPM/FMEA continuous-improvement methods.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Associate's degree in Electronics, Electronics Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field, military technical training, or equivalent practical experience.
