Field Applications Engineer (Reference Design Engineer)
Role Summary
The Reference Design Engineer will own the development and lifecycle of MCU/MPU-based reference designs, including hardware, firmware, and technical content. This role partners with engineering, marketing, and product management to validate designs and produce accurate, publishable reference design assets.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant embedded systems design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on design, validation, and content creation for reference designs.
- Create, review, and update schematics, PCB layouts, block diagrams, and other technical documentation for reference designs.
- Develop and adapt embedded software for MCU/MPU reference designs (8-bit and 32-bit embedded C).
- Develop, publish, and maintain web content for reference designs addressing markets such as Edge/IoT, Data Centers, AI/ML, E-Mobility, and Networking.
- Collaborate with engineering, marketing, product management, and cross-functional teams to gather technical details and ensure content accuracy.
- Ensure published content meets quality standards and is technically accurate before release.
- Create and manage Salesforce projects to link reference designs to customer opportunities.
- Manage multiple reference design projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Contribute to release process improvements and work effectively with other regions and divisions.
- Travel as needed to support training or regional activities (0β25%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional behaviors.
- Minimum 5 years design experience in microcontroller or microprocessor based embedded systems.
- Minimum 5 years experience with 8-bit and 32-bit embedded C programming.
- Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer and Siemens Xpedition.
- Practical experience using AI tools or AI-assisted engineering solutions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, SharePoint).
- Excellent verbal and written English communication; able to write and present clear technical information.
- Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking ability, high attention to detail, and ability to work with minimal guidance.
- Ability to establish trust and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Able to perform standard office tasks and lift up to 25 lbs.
Preferred: Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or similar CMS, block diagram tools, and Salesforce Lightning Service Console.
Education Requirements
BS/BSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
