Job Title

Field Applications Engineer (Graduate Entry) - Physical AI, Embedded Software & Radio Systems

Role Summary

Join a communications team developing intelligent systems that combine sensing, embedded software and AI to interpret real-world signals. The role focuses on Physical AI and building proof-of-concept demonstrators using radio systems, software-defined radio (SDR) platforms and edge computing.

This is an early-career position with hands-on work: you will develop embedded software, integrate hardware and contribute to signal-processing and AI workflows while working with mentors and customer-facing engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Graduate). Targeted at recent or upcoming graduates with foundational practical or academic experience.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support and build demonstrators that translate application needs into working prototypes and customer-facing proof-of-concept solutions.

  • Design and implement proof-of-concept solutions combining Physical AI, embedded software and radio systems.
  • Develop and debug embedded software in C/C++ and Python for radio configuration, data acquisition, signal processing and control.
  • Integrate SDR platforms with embedded processors and edge hardware to create end-to-end demonstrators.
  • Support AI workflows: dataset preparation, model evaluation and deployment on edge platforms under mentorship.
  • Implement and validate signal-processing pipelines for spectrum awareness, RF signal classification and intelligent sensing.
  • Combine RF data with other sensor inputs (e.g., cameras) to explore multimodal sensing approaches.
  • Measure and optimise system performance: latency, throughput, resource usage and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot hardware–software integration issues in lab and customer settings.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to translate application requirements into technical solutions.
  • Present demonstrations, document results and communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Own defined project tasks, seek feedback, and build technical skills under mentorship.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and abilities for successful performance in this early-career engineering role.

  • Practical programming experience in C/C++ and Python from coursework, projects or internships.
  • Foundational knowledge of embedded systems and digital signal processing; interest in wireless communications and radio systems.
  • Basic understanding of AI/machine-learning concepts and eagerness to apply them to embedded/physical-world signals.
  • Hands-on experience developing, testing or debugging software on hardware platforms.
  • Systematic problem-solving skills and the ability to turn open-ended ideas into working prototypes.
  • Clear communication, teamwork and documentation skills; willingness to engage with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and accept mentorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Embedded Linux, real-time software or hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
  • Familiarity with SDR platforms, RF measurements, wireless protocols or I/Q signal processing.
  • Experience with AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) including model training and inference.
  • Exposure to GPU-accelerated processing (CUDA) or deploying AI models on edge platforms.
  • Background in computer vision, sensor fusion or integrated sensing and communication.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing and reproducible development workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Engineering or a related technical field; targeted at recent or upcoming graduates.
