Field Application Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

Join GlobalFoundries as a Field Application Engineering (FAE) intern to provide technical support to customers, assist evaluations of GF technologies, and help drive successful design wins leading to tapeouts and first-time-right silicon.

You will work with cross-functional teams and GF subject-matter experts to translate customer requirements into technical evaluations, documentation, and support during the tapeout process.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for current undergraduate students (sophomore or above) seeking a summer internship; full-time availability during the internship period is required.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities focus on customer-facing technical support, cross-functional collaboration, and documentation to enable successful design tapeouts.

  • Learn GF technology offerings and key differentiators by engaging with internal experts.
  • Support technical evaluations and the tapeout process in partnership with subject-matter experts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology choices with customer application requirements.
  • Prepare clear, customer-facing technical documentation demonstrating how GF technologies address application challenges.
  • Participate in customer interactions and provide technical support during evaluation cycles.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security procedures in all activities.

Requirements

Must-have skills and availability for the internship period; preferred items listed separately.

Must-have

  • English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work full-time during the internship (at least 40 hours per week).
  • Work safely and follow EHS&S requirements.

Nice-to-have

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a technical role.
  • Leadership experience in projects, competitions, or student organizations.
  • Interest in applying AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and decision-making.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, EDA tools, and Linux.
  • Relevant coursework in circuit design, semiconductor device physics, or materials science.

Education Requirements

Must be at least a sophomore and actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field at an accredited institution during the internship. Must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and be in good academic standing.
