Field Application Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)

Role Summary

The Field Application Engineering Intern will provide technical support to GlobalFoundries customers to evaluate GF technologies, support design-in/tapeout activities, and help achieve successful first-time-right outcomes. The role works with internal subject-matter experts, sales and customer teams to translate customer requirements into technology evaluations and documentation.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). This is a student internship position; no prior full-time professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on customer technical support, technology evaluation, and documentation.

  • Learn GF technology offerings and technical differentiators by working with internal experts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to align GF technologies with customer requirements.
  • Assist customers with technical evaluations and tapeout execution in partnership with GF subject-matter experts.
  • Create customer-facing technical documentation demonstrating how GF technology meets application/market needs.
  • Perform work in a safe and compliant manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and logistical requirements for internship participation.

  • English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Available to work onsite in Austin, TX for the internship term.

Requirements

Preferred (nice-to-have) skills and experience.

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in school projects, competitions, or work.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Relevant coursework (Circuit Design, Semiconductor device physics, Materials Science).
  • Technical skills: Microsoft Office suite, EDA tools, Linux.

Education Requirements

At time of application the candidate should be at least a junior or senior and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field through an accredited program (during the internship). Required academic standing: overall GPA of at least 3.0 and in good academic standing. Preferred coursework includes circuit design, semiconductor device physics, and materials science.
