Field Application Engineer
Role Summary
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) provides pre-sales and post-sales technical support for Lumentum's Cloud & Networking Platform products, focusing on optical modules and components for datacenters and GPU clusters. The role partners with Product Line Management, Sales, and R&D to drive customer design-ins and resolve system-level integration issues.

Responsibilities
Support sales and customers with technical expertise, demonstrations, and troubleshooting to enable product adoption and successful integration.
- Provide pre-sales technical support, product demonstrations, and presentations to customers and sales teams.
- Engage with customers on requirements, participate in design reviews, and respond to RFIs/RFQs.
- Bring up transceiver modules at customer sites, troubleshoot prototypes, and develop solutions to achieve design-in.
- Prepare and manage customer-facing technical documentation: corrective actions, analysis reports, test plans, reliability qualification plans, and performance improvement plans.
- Manage Product Change Notification (PCN) processes with customers and engineering.
- Participate in failure analysis, corrective action, and lessons-learned activities.
Requirements
Key technical skills and practical experience required or strongly preferred.
- Must have: Minimum 3 years engineering experience designing, developing, or testing coherent optical modules/components (including DSPs, receivers, modulators, lasers).
- Must have: Direct product development and NPI experience with optical components/modules or system OEMs; practical knowledge of transceiver hardware, specifications, and test of firmware/hardware interfaces.
- Must have: Ability to travel domestically and internationally and strong written and spoken English.
- Nice to have: Familiarity with device firmware structure and functionality.
- Nice to have: Familiarity with standards such as CMIS/C-CMIS, Ethernet, and InfiniBand.
- Nice to have: Experience with popular switch/router platforms and ONTs (e.g., Arista, Cisco, Nvidia).
- Nice to have: Practical scripting experience (Python) for test and validation tasks.
Education Requirements
