Role Summary

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will act as the technical lead for Broadcom's optical component business supporting key optical module customers in Chengdu. The role partners with Sales and the Business Unit to promote, validate and integrate optical solutions including PAM4 DSPs, high-speed lasers (VCSEL/EML/DFB) and photodiodes.

This position focuses on customer-facing technical ownership across design-win, debug, performance optimization and product qualification.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 10+ years of relevant experience in the optical communication industry.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer technical ownership, design-win support, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Own the full lifecycle of technical support for assigned optical module customers in Chengdu.
• Align and execute local customer strategies with company business and product roadmaps.
• Drive Design-Win projects through collaboration with Sales, Business Unit and internal engineering teams.
• Manage day-to-day technical communications with customer R&D and engineering teams.
• Provide deep expertise to enable customer designs, including on-site debugging, performance optimization and product qualification.
• Lead on-site technical support and troubleshoot field issues; support product qualification and release activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, domain knowledge, and work expectations.

• 10+ years progressive experience in the optical communication industry supporting semiconductor optical component business.
• In-depth knowledge of optical communication systems and industry standards such as IEEE, CMIS and OIF.
• Proficient with optical test equipment (DCA, oscilloscope, BERT, Ethernet tester) for performance testing, parameter calibration and fault analysis.
• Solid knowledge of optical module software, hardware and PCB layout design; practical familiarity with the optical module development lifecycle.
• Deep understanding of DSP internal architecture; experienced in DSP debugging, optimization and performance tuning.
• Willingness to travel frequently to provide on-site customer support.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with data center and AI network architecture.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optical Communication, Optoelectronics or a related engineering major.
