Job Title

FE Engineer

Role Summary

Work with Front-End (FE) and Physical Design (PD) teams to improve performance, power and area (PPA) for next-generation GPU designs. Analyze standard cell and memory hard-IP offerings, recommend usage, and drive design of custom cells and methodology changes to meet GPU-specific requirements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requests approximately 3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include collaboration, analysis, and driving design/methodology changes to meet PPA targets.

  • Collaborate with Front-End and Physical Design teams to define and implement methodology updates for GPU designs.
  • Analyze standard cell libraries and memory hard-IP; recommend usage and integration strategies for graphics FE/PD teams.
  • Specify and drive design of custom cells optimized for GPU requirements.
  • Work with power teams to analyze GPU power behavior and recommend power-reduction strategies across architecture and gate-level design.
  • Support performance and timing closure efforts by aligning FE and PD flows with timing and electrical constraints.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and tools for effective execution.

  • Experience with threshold voltage, device variation, parasitics, noise, electrical analysis (EA), and timing concepts.
  • Proficiency with scripting for design execution, analysis, and debug (Python, Perl, or Tcl).
  • Experience using industry physical design tools (e.g., Innovus or ICC) to produce PPA-compliant layouts.
  • Experience with timing-closure tools (e.g., Tempus or PrimeTime) to meet performance and electrical requirements.
  • Familiarity with synthesis tools (Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor) and low-power design techniques.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and create meaningful visualizations for optimization decisions.

Education Requirements

Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The posting also specifies approximately 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
