Failure Analysis Intern (Bachelor's/Master's Degree)
Role Summary
The Failure Analysis intern supports the Failure Analysis team in root-cause investigations for customer returns, internal qualification, and production support. The role is hands-on and involves operating FA tools, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting corrective actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Enrolled bachelor's or master's students; prior professional experience not required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on tool operation, analysis support, workflow automation, and reporting:
- Operate and learn FA tools: optical/IR microscope, SAM, curve tracer.
- Support RMA failure analysis and assist in preparing FA 8D reports.
- Build and maintain SAM reference profile database.
- Participate in GDS-to-Avalon layout conversion and help automate the workflow.
- Contribute to FA dashboard development and optimization.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors on investigations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; nice-to-have items are noted.
- Experience with failure analysis tools such as optical microscopes and SAM.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment: DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies.
- Curious, proactive, self-motivated, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to document findings clearly to support analysis reports.
- Nice-to-have: basic scripting skills (including AI-assisted scripting) and prior hands-on lab experience.
Education Requirements
Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, or a related technical field. Academic enrollment is required for this internship.
