Job Title
Failure Analysis Engineer
Role Summary
The Failure Analysis Engineer investigates and determines root causes of semiconductor device failures to improve product quality and reliability. The role works with cross-functional teams including design, test, product, and reliability engineering to deliver actionable analysis and corrective actions.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting prefers candidates with 2+ years of semiconductor failure analysis experience, though strong fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Core duties include electrical and physical failure analysis, method development, and communication of findings to engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Perform detailed electrical failure analysis on semiconductor devices (microcontrollers, processors, analog circuits).
- Operate and interpret results from failure analysis tools (SEM/EDX, OBIRCH, emission microscopy, PEM, LIT, etc.).
- Use electrical fault‑isolation and debug tools for device characterization and root‑cause identification.
- Develop and implement new failure analysis methodologies for emerging failure modes and technologies.
- Produce clear, thorough failure analysis reports with observations, conclusions, and recommended corrective actions.
- Collaborate with design, product, test, and reliability teams to drive product and process improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians and contribute technical expertise to cross‑functional teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, hands-on tool experience, and personal capabilities.
- 2+ years experience in semiconductor failure analysis in high-volume manufacturing or R&D (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of semiconductor device physics, processing, and packaging technologies.
- Hands-on experience with a range of failure analysis techniques and equipment (SEM/EDX, PEM, LIT, OBIRCH, LVP/EOP, emission microscopy, etc.).
- Proficiency in electrical debug and characterization: curve tracing, logic analysis, oscilloscopes.
- Methodical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills; ability to document results clearly.
- Good written and verbal technical communication; ability to present complex information concisely.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Nice-to-have: experience with statistical analysis tools and methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field. The posting explicitly encourages strong fresh graduates as well as candidates with 2+ years of relevant experience.
