Role Summary

Join the advanced analytical laboratory at GlobalFoundries Fab 9 in Essex Junction, VT to support semiconductor manufacturing through failure analysis, materials characterization, and data-driven root-cause investigations. This role focuses on developing hands-on expertise with analytical methods and contributing to yield and reliability improvement.

Entry-level β€” New college graduate (0–1 years of professional experience).

Responsibilities

Support failure analysis and materials characterization efforts to identify and resolve manufacturing and yield issues.

  • Perform failure analysis using techniques such as Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) and other lab methods.
  • Analyze characterization data, interpret results, and present findings to engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop investigation strategies and optimize analytical methods.
  • Develop technical expertise in semiconductor materials, failure mechanisms, and laboratory equipment through training and mentorship.

Requirements

Key must-have qualifications and additional desirable experience.

  • Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal); travel up to 10%.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated analytical and data-interpretation skills; ability to communicate technical results to teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, or laboratory experience in semiconductor processing, materials characterization, or failure analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with materials characterization techniques (SIMS, SEM, EDX, optical microscopy, spectroscopy) or prior work in a lab/cleanroom/manufacturing environment.
  • Nice-to-have: Interest in applying AI tools and emerging technologies to improve workflows.

Education Requirements

Graduating with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Minimum overall GPA 3.0 required. (This role is targeted to new college graduates.)
