Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level engineering role in TI's failure analysis group supporting characterization, test, die-level deprocessing and circuit analysis for semiconductor products. The position interfaces with wafer fab processing, assembly/test, design engineering, product engineering and CQE to determine root cause of failures and recommend corrective actions.

Experience Level

Entry-level / new college graduate. Role is part of a 12-month Career Accelerator Program for new graduates; suitable for candidates with little to no professional experience (0–2 years).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities focus on electrical and physical failure analysis and communicating findings to engineering teams.

• Perform bench-level electrical verification and fault isolation on integrated circuits to determine root cause of failure.
• Conduct circuit analysis and use bench equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
• Perform die-level deprocessing and defect localization; become proficient with failure analysis techniques and equipment operation.
• Work from schematics, layouts, verbal descriptions and test plans to execute tests and isolate failures.
• Manage the failure analysis process and coordinate with design, product and quality teams.
• Prepare clear, detailed failure analysis reports and present findings to stakeholders.
• Provide consultation and support to non-failure-analysis disciplines as needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical abilities and behaviors expected for immediate contribution; preferred attributes follow.

• Must-have: Basic bench-level electrical testing skills and ability to perform fault isolation on ICs.
• Must-have: Ability to read and work from schematics and layouts and to follow defined test procedures.
• Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good judgment for isolating failures.
• Must-have: Willingness to learn and operate failure analysis equipment and techniques.
• Nice-to-have: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in teams and across functions.
• Nice-to-have: Initiative, time-management skills, ability to work in an interrupt-driven fast-paced environment, and ownership for implementing quality improvements.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. The posting specifies a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher and targets new college graduates participating in TI's Career Accelerator Program (12-month new-hire development program).
