Role Summary

Mid-level Field Applications Engineer supporting AMD's technical engagement with Google as a strategic hyperscale customer in the San Jose, CA area. The role spans pre-sales and post-sales activities including platform bring-up, debugging, tools enablement, and performance characterization as programs progress from evaluation to production.

This position requires hands-on system work, cross-functional collaboration with sales and engineering, and the ability to communicate technical findings to customers and internal teams. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Experience Level

Mid-level — approximately 5 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on platform support, debugging, and performance analysis for AMD server platforms used in hyperscale environments.

  • Support Google engineering teams with evaluation and deployment of AMD server platforms.
  • Assist with platform bring-up, validation, and debug across CPU, memory, PCIe/CXL, BIOS/UEFI, and Linux OS.
  • Execute hands-on debugging and issue triage in collaboration with senior FAEs and AMD engineering teams.
  • Perform performance analysis, benchmarking, and workload characterization for compute, memory, and I/O.
  • Produce customer-facing documentation, technical presentations, and test reports.
  • Track technical issues, action items, and deliverables across customer engagements.
  • Provide technical support to sales activities aligned with account objectives and capture customer feedback for product and platform teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills required to perform the role.

  • Experience in systems engineering, hardware enablement, platform validation, or related technical roles.
  • Foundational knowledge of server architectures, including CPUs, memory subsystems, and I/O.
  • Working knowledge of Linux-based operating systems and common debugging tools.
  • Experience with server bring-up, validation, performance testing, or customer support environments.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and communicate technical topics clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% (mostly domestic).
  • Preferred: familiarity with datacenter platforms and hyperscale environments, server benchmarking, PCIe/networking/storage subsystems, BIOS/UEFI concepts, and customer-facing FAE or support experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience; Computer Science or Electrical Engineering preferred.
