Role Summary
The Field Applications Engineer provides technical support to customers integrating Microchip solutions with Hailo NPU and VPU products for Edge AI and vision applications. The role focuses on deep learning model optimization, runtime integration, and embedded Linux system integration to enable AI acceleration on MPU/processor-based platforms.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting requests at least 2 years of professional experience in embedded systems, Edge AI, AI hardware, VPU/vision processing, or related technical support.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities center on customer-facing technical support, system integration, and performance optimization for Edge AI and vision solutions.
- Support quantization, compilation, and optimization of deep learning models (e.g., YOLO, ResNet, Transformer-based) using Hailo Dataflow Compiler and HailoRT.
- Advise customers on AI acceleration performance tuning to maximize FPS and minimize power and memory bandwidth on target platforms.
- Provide VPU and vision/video processing support, system integration, and performance optimization for AI/vision use cases.
- Perform embedded Linux driver porting and runtime integration (Kernel, Yocto); troubleshoot hardware/software integration over PCIe or USB.
- Debug GStreamer-based video pipelines and assist with media codec conversion into NPU input tensors.
- Run technical workshops, demonstrations, and seminars for key customers; act as a primary technical contact in the field.
- Collaborate with global BU and HQ engineering teams to resolve field issues and provide market/technical feedback.
- Travel as required (0%β25%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional competencies for successful performance in the role.
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in embedded systems, Edge AI, AI hardware, VPU/vision processing, or related development/support roles.
- Practical experience with embedded Linux integration and troubleshooting (Kernel, Yocto, driver porting).
- Experience integrating and debugging runtime stacks and media pipelines (e.g., GStreamer) on embedded platforms.
- Strong customer-facing communication and presentation skills; ability to read and use English technical documentation.
- Proven problem-solving skills, ownership, and ability to work independently across global teams.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with other AI accelerator ecosystems (NVIDIA TensorRT/DeepStream, Intel OpenVINO) or SDKs from regional NPU vendors.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with OpenCV, FFmpeg, or developing GStreamer plugins; experience optimizing video-to-tensor pipelines (H.264/H.265/HEVC).
Education Requirements
