Senior Field Applications Engineer (FAE)

Role Summary

Provide technical pre- and post-sales support for Microchip storage products to customers in China, focusing on design-win opportunities, system-level issue resolution, and collaboration with sales and product teams. The role involves on-site debugging in customer labs, architecture discussions, and helping close key opportunities.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting specifies a minimum of 3+ years of software R&D experience relevant to drivers and OS development; 2+ years of customer support experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical support, customer engagement, and collaboration with sales and engineering teams.

  • Provide technical support across pre-sales and post-sales stages to major customers to identify and secure design wins.
  • Respond rapidly to customer issues and follow up until resolution.
  • Work with sales to develop strategies to close key opportunities and grow market share for storage products.
  • Perform on-site debugging in customer labs at device/system level including hardware, firmware and software.
  • Support architecture discussions and product integration with customers.
  • Communicate technical status and priorities with customers, business units, and sales managers for critical issues and projects.

Requirements

Key skills and traits required or preferred for successful performance.

  • Must-have: 3+ years of software R&D experience in driver and OS-related development.
  • Must-have: Good understanding of basic OS principles and Linux kernel architecture.
  • Must-have: Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Must-have: Strong analytical problem-solving and creative thinking.
  • Must-have: Willingness to travel frequently and provide extended on-site customer support (Travel 25%–50%).
  • Nice-to-have: Hardware experience and prior customer support experience (2+ years preferred).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with storage architectures and major storage protocols such as PCI Express; NVMe experience preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred. Equivalent practical experience accepted where specified.
