FAE - Field Applications Engineer (Reference Design Engineer)

Role Summary

Lead development and lifecycle management of embedded reference designs, including hardware, firmware, and technical web content. Collaborate with engineering, product management, marketing, and regional teams to ensure reference designs are technically accurate, documented, and aligned with business objectives.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects experienced engineers; the posting specifies a minimum of 5 years of relevant embedded systems and firmware design experience.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver reference-design projects from concept through publication and maintenance.

  • Create, review, and update schematics, PCB layouts, block diagrams, and technical documentation for reference designs.
  • Develop or adapt embedded software for MCU/MPU-based reference designs (8-bit and 32-bit).
  • Develop, publish, and maintain high-quality web content that documents reference designs and highlights their value for target markets (Edge/IoT, Data Centers, AI/ML, E‑Mobility, Networking, etc.).
  • Work cross-functionally to gather technical details and translate them into clear technical content.
  • Validate technical accuracy of content prior to publication and ensure consistency and quality standards.
  • Track and link reference designs to customer opportunities via Salesforce projects.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Support release-process improvements and collaborate with global teams; travel as needed (0–25%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and workplace capabilities.

  • Minimum 5 years design experience in microcontroller or microprocessor-based embedded systems.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with 8-bit and 32-bit embedded C programming.
  • Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer and Siemens Xpedition.
  • Practical experience using AI tools or AI-assisted engineering solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication; able to write and present concise technical information.
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and ability to work with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility and to work effectively in a team.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or similar web content management systems.
  • Familiarity with block-diagram tools and Salesforce Lightning Service Console.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS/BSc) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field; equivalent experience acceptable.
