Job Title

ESD Engineer

Role Summary

The ACC CTO EMC/ESD team develops ESD and EMC solutions to ensure product robustness. This role designs, validates, and deploys on-chip ESD protection solutions across multiple technologies and product families to meet reliability, performance, area, and cost targets.

You will collaborate with technology, design, package, validation, and system teams to support new product introductions and contribute to methodology and strategy development.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career β€” typically 1 to 3 years of relevant ESD protection design experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver practical on-chip ESD protection solutions and support product robustness from architecture through qualification.

  • Define ESD protection concepts and architectures for new ICs across product families.
  • Design, optimize, and validate on-chip ESD networks, I/O structures, and top-level protection schemes.
  • Perform ESD simulations, robustness analysis, and ensure compliance with IEC 61000-4-2, ISO 10605 and automotive discharge tests.
  • Maintain ESD design methodologies, guidelines, and protection libraries.
  • Support product teams through development, characterization, failure analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with technology, circuit, package, validation, and system teams on cross-disciplinary issues.
  • Contribute to advanced ESD modeling, automation, and future protection concepts.
  • Provide technical coaching, documentation, and share lessons learned across teams.
  • Participate in research, patents, and external collaborations when relevant.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and integrated-circuit design.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in ESD protection design for analog, mixed-signal, high-voltage, power-management, or automotive ICs.
  • Familiarity with ESD qualification methods and mechanisms (HBM, CDM, TLP, VF-TLP, latch-up) and standards such as IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605.
  • Experience with circuit simulation and common EDA tools.
  • Practical exposure to ESD characterization, silicon debug, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, clear communication, and ability to work in multidisciplinary international teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of system-level ESD/EMC robustness challenges.
  • Experience with advanced CMOS, BCD, SOI, or high-voltage technologies.
  • Exposure to automation, AI-assisted design methods, or data analytics.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Physics, or a related discipline.
