ESD Device Design Engineer Intern (Jan–Jun 2027)

Role Summary

Hands-on internship to support development of electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices for IC product pins. The role works under mentor guidance to perform device experiments, TCAD simulation, technical analysis, and documentation to improve device robustness, area efficiency, and product reliability.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current students; no prior professional experience required. Suitable for undergraduate students seeking practical semiconductor device design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks and day-to-day activities for the internship.

  • Conduct device design experiments with mentor guidance to learn semiconductor device concepts and experimental methods.
  • Assist with ESD device design for high-voltage applications (12–85V and 100/200V) across 180nm to 28nm CMOS/BCD process nodes.
  • Perform TCAD simulations for ESD devices after receiving training.
  • Prepare technical data, analysis, and reports to support customer ESD inquiries.
  • Support development of latch-up prevention rules by documenting experimental results and analysis.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) requirements and perform tasks safely and responsibly.

  • Must-have: Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Must-have: General understanding of semiconductor devices and processes; willingness to learn and apply TCAD tools under mentorship.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior related internship or co-op experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated leadership in projects, competitions, or student organizations.
  • Nice-to-have: Project management skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Nice-to-have: Interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and analysis.

Education Requirements

Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field through an accredited program during the internship period; must be in good academic standing while enrolled. (No alternative degree or equivalent-experience language provided.)
