Job Title
ESD & CAD Design Manager
Role Summary
Manage CAD flow development and ESD design methodology for analog/mixed-signal and digital ASIC products. Lead CAD and ESD teams to ensure reliable, efficient design flows, integration of ESD protection into designs, and delivery of production-ready IP and toolchains.
Experience Level
Senior-level β requires significant experience: the posting specifies at least 12 years of ESD & CAD experience and at least 3 years of people management experience.
Responsibilities
Own CAD tool flows, ESD design practices, team execution, and cross-functional delivery.
- Manage development and maintenance of CAD flows (PERC, PathFinder, other verification and signoff flows) and provide internal user support.
- Plan and execute CAD and ESD projects; prioritize work, allocate resources, and track technical deliverables and timelines.
- Supervise, mentor, and train CAD and ESD engineers on tools, workflows, and best practices.
- Implement and integrate internal and external tools for design automation, modeling, characterization, and IP releases.
- Establish, document, and enforce ESD design guidelines; review designs for ESD compliance and recommend mitigations.
- Perform or coordinate design-level ESD analysis and simulations to identify vulnerabilities and prevent failures.
- Ensure quality control of CAD outputs and compliance with industry and project standards.
- Evaluate and adopt new CAD/ESD technologies and integrate them into existing workflows.
- Report status and improvements to engineering management; support cross-team collaboration with design and project managers.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills required to perform the role.
Must-have:
- Minimum ~12 years of ESD and CAD engineering experience and at least ~3 years of management experience.
- Advanced proficiency with CAD/EDA platforms (examples: Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys PrimeTime, Ansys Seascape/RedHawk/Totem, PathFinder, Calibre).
- Strong scripting skills (Perl, Python); familiarity with EDA languages is valued.
- Solid understanding of electrostatic discharge fundamentals, related physics, and ESD-safe design practices.
- Experience with ESD analysis and simulation tools and interpreting results to drive design changes.
- Experience with file/version control and data management systems for CAD environments.
- Proven leadership, team-building, project management, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Skill, TCL or other EDA-specific languages and additional EDA products.
- Prior experience integrating new automation tools or ESD technologies into production flows.
Education Requirements
MS in Engineering (or a closely related technical field) required. The posting specifies this degree alongside the experience requirements.
